Jump Start the New Year Family Night
Join the FDES Family to Jump Start the New Year!!
Thursday, Jan. 19th is FDES’ First Annual Jump Start the New Year Family Night! This year Fort Dorchester Elementary School has been focusing on helping our students become leaders in making healthy choices. Our day starts with Fifth Grade students giving our students a healthy fact and then quick exercises to help “Jump Start” the school day! Now we would like to “Jump Start” your family’s New Year with a night of fun activities and informative presenters, all hosted by our Fifth Grade students!
Come out for the PTA meeting at 6:00 to learn more about our school’s healthy initiative, then from 6:30-7:00, join  teachers and community members for fun and exciting ways to get your blood pumping and body moving! Teachers will be showing you how to take your pulse and then what happens when to your pulse when you get your body moving to the music! You can learn some fun ways to S T R E T C H out your body and your mind at the same time. Students will be able to practice making a 911 call that could save a life. Our Fifth Grade students will be leading the exercises that “Jump Start” your child’s school day!   A local boy’s soccer team will be at FDES to demonstrate the best way to warm up and cool down before and after a sporting event. After exercising your body, exercise your mind with informative presentations from experts in the field of health and wellness. Learn about nutritional needs, keeping your family heart healthy, and how to perform “Hands Only” CPR. Presentations will be from 7:00-7:30.
All students will receive a NO HOMEWORK PASS and be able to sign up to win a chance to be a Fitness Specialist and join Mrs. Kephart and the Fifth Grade students on the Morning Show to Jump Start the Day!! Students can put their name into a jar. We will choose three names each week for students to help on the Morning Show.
Students and Faculty can also participate in “Dress Like a PE Teacher” that day. The cost is $1.00 and all money is donated to the American Heart Association.
Jump Rope for Heart

Jump Rope For Heart

Fort Dorchester Elementary is getting a “jump start” on our community service project.  The PE Department will be sending a pink letter with a permission slip home with students.  If your child would like a collection envelope please sign the permission slip and return it to school.  The FDES parents have been great supporters of Jump Rope For Heart, by bringing collection envelopes to work and helping their children send out emails.   The FDES family has been a leader in our state for many years as the top fundraising school.  We help educate and provide funding for research to assist in the fight with heart disease and stroke prevention.   Our students have done a great job using online fundraising.  The students love to monitor their progress using the Heart Hero website by sending emails to family and friends for donations.  This is a great way to get involved as a family in a lifesaving community service project.  To help your child get started, log on to  http://www.heart.org  and follow the instructions to set up your webpage and start saving lives.
